There’s plenty of things to do in and around Flaxmill Bay for families and groups. In addition to digging a spa pool at Hot Water Beach or walking to Cathedral Cove, here are some of our ideas.
If you fancy a round of golf, the Purangi Golf Course is only about a 5km drive from Flaxmill Bay. An undulating and well maintained 9 hole course.
For a bit of pampering, catch the ferry across to Whitianga and relax at The Lost Spring thermal pools and day spa (supervised children over 14yrs welcome).
On a rainy day (or for a break from the sun and sea), see a movie at the Mercury Bay Twin Cinemas in Whitianga. There's no online booking so it's best to call ahead to check you can get tickets!
Directly opposite the Whitianga wharf is the Mercury Bay Museum. Historical, educational and some 'hands on' fun for all ages.
Visit the Coroglen Farmer's Market at the Coroglen Hall for fresh produce, homemade goodies, arts and crafts and more. Open every Sunday from late October through the Summer months.
3kms north of Coromandel Town is the Driving Creek Railway. Take a 1 hour journey through the forest on New Zealand's steepest Railway. With a wildlife sanctuary, potter's studio and more onsite there's lots to see and do. Bookings are required.
If you do need a break from the beach, there are many things to do in the area for kids of all ages - from distinctly kiwi animal parks to Quad Bike cruising around Whitianga.
