Our philosophy is a simple one. It is for all our guests to relax and recharge in our little piece of paradise at Flaxmill Bay, by Cooks Beach on the stunning Coromandel Peninsula.
Do as little, or as much as you want. Get lulled to sleep by the gentle sound of lapping waves. Wake up to the calls of our native song birds.
Come and join us – we’d love to meet you.

Flaxmill (Flaxmill Bay Hideaway) is owned by a NZ charitable foundation, Big Toe Foundation (BTF). Over the past 20+ years, the Trustees of BTF have developed the property into a high-quality, commercially sustainable facility, that is also made available to NZ-based not-for-profit groups to use at a reduced rate.
This is our way of giving back to those doing ‘good work’ in the community.
Since 2014, the facilities have been used by groups and organisations for conferences and courses, and by their team members for relaxing and recharging their batteries.

The current owners purchased the Flaxmill Bay property in 2003 and for years it was run as a summer campground.
Since 2013, Flaxmill has been progressively developed into a private park with quality accommodation options set within landscaped gardens and a central complex for hosting destination weddings, conferences and retreats.
The boutique campground remains a welcome part of our summer environment, with many families and friend groups returning each year.
Flaxmill Bay Hideaway is operating as a seasonal campground, only open over the peak summer months.
Mercury, our first holiday house is completed. The central complex and amenities undergo refurbishment.
Flaxmill builds another 2 Houses (Ferry Landing and Endeavour) and the Cottages and Sleeper Cabins are refurbished to reflect our new standards.

4 more Houses are built across the rear boundary of the property taking our House total to 11. The Cottages are double-glazed, re-roofed and refurbished.
