Our philosophy is simple. It is for all our guests to relax and recharge in our little piece of paradise at Flaxmill Bay, Cooks Beach.
Do as little, or as much as you want. Get lulled to sleep by the gentle sound of lapping waves. Wake up to the calls of our native song birds. Come and join us – we’d love to meet you.
Flaxmill (Flaxmill Bay Hideaway) is owned by a NZ charitable foundation, Big Toe Foundation (BTF). Over the past 10 years, the Trustees of BTF have developed the property with the objective of providing a high-quality, commercially sustainable facility, that can be made available to NZ-based not for profit groups to use at a reasonable cost.
Our busy summer season provides us with the ability to offer reduced rates to these groups in the quieter times of the year. This is our way of giving back to those doing ‘good work’ in the community.
Since 2014, the facilities have been used by groups and organisations for conferences and courses, and by their team members for relaxing and recharging their batteries.
The current owners purchased the Flaxmill Bay property in 2004 and for years it was run as a summer campground with basic cabins and cottages.
Since 2013 Flaxmill has been progressively developed into a private holiday park with 4 Cottages and 11 Houses nestled within large landscaped gardens, and a modern venue suitable for destination weddings, conferences and retreats.
The boutique campground remains a welcome part of our summer environment, with many families returning year after year.
Flaxmill Bay Hideaway is operating as a seasonal campground, only open over the peak summer months.
